Dr. John F. Orsborn (1929-2016) was presented with IFC’s prestigious “Making a Difference” and “Honorary Lifetime IFC Membership” awards to recognize his 60+ years of significant academic, professional and private contributions to improving and applying the science of quantifying instream flows and water levels required to sustain natural resources and other ecological services.

John (known to family and friends as Jack) is noted for his vision and actions that contributed to development of interdisciplinary academic curriculums that bridge engineering, hydrology, and biology. The IFC also recognizes his academic and applied contributions to fish passage design.

The IFC has also posted the electronic version of John’s 1976 historically significant two volume instream flow publication: Proceedings of the Symposium and Specialty Conference on Instream Flow Needs, including an updated Supplemental Foreword, on the IFC web site.

It is the honor of IFC to acknowledge John for his many contributions to improve and implement the science of instream flow and water level quantification and protection.
