Invitation to FLOW 2008!
The Instream Flow Council invites you to FLOW 2008, an interactive conference scheduled for October 7-9, 2008, in San Antonio. The increasing importance of our water resources to support a wide variety of societal and ecological needs, and the increasing complexity of issues and often contentious proceedings within which water management decisions are made, provide a challenging yet realistic backdrop for this conference.
The FLOW 2008 Planning Team, along with the help of an Advisory Committee (talented experts from across North America whose disciplines are key to instream flow and water management), has developed an interactive conference to achieve the goal of advancing the integration of instream flow science, policy, and public dialogue and improving the ability of diverse stakeholders to cooperatively solve instream flow problems in the U.S. and Canada.
The conference includes:
- World-renowned collaborative trainer, Larry Susskind of Harvard Law School's Program on Negotiation, who will lead facets of our conference as well as "Achieving Excellence: New Approaches to Collaborative Instream Flow Problem-Solving," a skill-building session on collaborative decision-making
- Exploration of several instream flow case studies from across the U.S. and Canada
- A "state of the art" panel on instream flow science, policy, and public dialogue
- Three keynote addresses from highly respected leaders in the field of natural resource management and policy development
- Three concurrent pre-conference workshops for additional technical skill building (Click here to learn about the pre-conference workshops)
We ask that you bring and share with FLOW 2008 participants your passion and insight as a policy maker, scientist, lawyer, engineer, educator, consultant, tribal leader, agency resource manager, student or conservationist. As a group, we hope to forge new understandings, relationships and processes to allow us all to better address society's diverse needs for water.
On behalf of the Instream Flow Council, and the Conference Planning Team and Advisory Committee, we invite you to FLOW 2008. We hope you come and find new collaborators in the world of instream flow management, and you enjoy your stay in beautiful, historic San Antonio. (Click here for information on San Antonio) Please join us in thanking our generous sponsors for their assistance in bringing you FLOW 2008!
See you in October!
